Rhine River, along with its major tributary, the Ruhr, drains the largest physical region of the state. Another summer attraction is the chair lift, which opened in 1959 and runs on Sundays between a "Mountain" and "Valley" station 500 metres apart. Dortmund has adapted since the collapse of its century long steel, coal and beer industries.
